It's finally here, the first game of the 2011 season.  All the offseason hype, the High-Octane advertising, the questions, the concerns, none of it matters now.  It's gameday.  A special gameday, the first of the season.  There's only one way to describe this:

A 6:00pm game on Labor Day weekend to start the season.  Man, it doens't get better than this.  Don't forget to stick around after the game as the infamous Zambelli's plan to light up the river (Cleveland style?).  Now on to this week's opponent: the University at Buffalo.

Buffalo's full name is The University at Buffalo, The State University of New York.  Good luck working that into an athletics chant.  Established in 1846, the University was private until 1962 when it joined the State University of New York (SUNY) system.  Famous Alumni include Millard Fillmore, who just happened to be the 13th President of the United States, and Barry Glick who is the co-founder of MapQuest.

The sports teams are referred to as the Bulls, however female sports teams were originally referred to as the Royals.  I could not find out if that was discontinued due to the poor success of the Kansas City Royals and not wanting to be associated with terrible baseball or not.  Just throwing it out there though.

Buffalo joined Division I-A football in 1996 as a member of the MAC conference.  Walt Harris and Dave Wannstedt still shudder at the mention of the MAC conference.  Last season Buffalo finished a disappointing 2-10 under first year coach Jeff Quinn.  Buffalo has won the MAC once in 2008, and is 0-1 all time in bowl games.
