It's homecoming week and what a better way to celebrate homecoming than to have kickoff at 12:00pm. That way all the students can stumble to the North Shore hungover sleepy at 9:00am. Hell, I'll be stumbling there half asleep at 9:00am. Anyhow, here are a few pictures of homecoming - the first from 1947 and the second from 2010.

Slightly different looking eh? With homecoming week comes a break from the BIG EAST schedule (but not from Expansionpoloza) and a visit from Utah. This is a potentially scary match-up for Pitt as Utah right now is almost a clone of Rutgers (except for the Darth Vadar uniform look). Utah has a very aggressive (John Marinatto approves) and attacking defense, on the other side of the ball they have a new Quarterback due to injury issues. Attacking defense, new quarterback, primary color is red, oh crap. So what do we know about Utah?

Behind Enemy Blogs: Block U
The University of Utah itself is older than the state of Utah. Yep, that's right. Established on February 28, 1850 as the University of Deseret, the school was renamed to the University of Utah in 1892 four years before Utah attained statehood. The Board of Regents to establish the University was organized by Bringham Young, it's kind of a shame that 1850 wasn't a leap year allowing for an establishment on February 29. That would just be awesome. The school is located in Salt Lake City, Utah but that wasn't always the case. In fact, early classes were held in private homes or wherever space could be found. The University actually closed in 1853 due to insufficient funding. Revived in 1867, The University did not move to Salt Lake City until 1900 when it obtained land belonging to Fort Douglas of the US Army.
A couple of cool facts about the University: they have a massive block U on the side of a mountain overlooking campus. Seriously, how cool is that? I want a big nasty looking panther on the side of Cardiac Hill looking at the Pete. The campus also hosted the Olympic Village during the 2002 Winter Olympics. I could not find word on how many drunken binges took place between athletes and students, but I'm sure there was a lot.
Alumni of the University have founded or run some pretty large companies including: founder of Netscape (do any of you students even know what Netscape is?), co-founder of Adobe Systems, co-founder of WordPerfect, Founder of Atari and Chuck E. Cheese (same guy, no lie), co-founder of Pixar, founder of JetBlue Airways, and CEO of Procter & Gamble. Not too shabby.
Hail to Pitt!
