(Rob Kandel/Allentown Morning Call)"][/caption] What happens when you take a bunch of high schoolers who haven't played football in 6 months, give them minimal practice time and then put them on the field in 85+ degree weather?  You don't get fundamentally sound football, that's for sure.  But such is the Big 33 game, a prestigious game played every June between the top players in Ohio and Pennsylvania.  For the second straight year (but only the second time in six years) Ohio beat Pennsylvania.  It's kind of win-win though, as Pitt had several recruits on both sides.  For Pennsylvania:
  • Derrick Burns (RB)
  • Salath Williams (WR)
  • Kevin Witherspoon (CB)
  • Khaynin Mosley-Smith (DT)
  • Anthony Gonzalez (QB)
  • Andrew Carswell (WR)
For Ohio:
  • Matt Rotheram (OL)
  • Mark Myers (QB)
  • Brendan Carozzoni (TE)

I HIGHLY recommend turning the sound down on these highlights and skipping about a minute in.

Myers and Gonzalez each threw touchdowns (with AG's being thrown to fellow Panthers Salath Williams and Andrew Carswell), but neither looked particularly sharp according to reports.  Imagine that.

It's my general opinion that games like this have absolutely zero value.  Football isn't a game adaptable to what amounts to a pick-up game.  But it is an honor for these young men to be selected as some of the best in their state - and for that, I salute them.

Link dump after the jump if you want to check out the newspaper stories, including some praise for Pitt's Khaynin Mosley-Smith.
